It has been announced Hasbro will be teaming up with Netflix to create an original animated series based on the popular classic toy, Stretch Armstrong.  The toy was originally created in 1976 and was a muscled doll which was advertised to be able to stretch from its original size of fifteen inches up to four or five feet.  The character was being developed for a movie, but remained in development hell.

The new series, titled Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, will follow high school student Jake Armstrong and his two best friends Nathan Park and Ricardo Perez who are accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical that forever changes their seemingly normal lives, transforming them into unlikely heroes who embark on a series of adventures.

“Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters is the first Hasbro brand to receive a Netflix original series order.  We have been waiting for just the right moment to re-imagine Stretch for a new audience and our friend at Netflix got it right away; they have been a tremendous partner,” said Stephen Davis, Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President of Hasbro Inc.  ” We Have hit a superhero sweet spot, and with Netflix’s global reach, kids across the world will fall in love with its fun characters and action-packed storyline.”

The Netflix series will feature the voice talents of Scott Menville (teen Titans Go!, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Jake Armstrong/Stretch, Steven Yeun (The walking Dead, Okja) as Nathan Park/Wingspan, Ogie Banks (Ultimate Spider-Man) as Ricardo Perez/Omni-Mass, Wil Wheaton (Teen Titans Go!, Star Trek: The Next Generation) as Rook, Felicia Day (The Guild, Supernatural), as Erika, Keith David (Adventure Time, Rick and Morty) as Kane, Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black, Star Trek: Voyager) as Dr. C, and Watler Koenig (Star Trek, Babylon 5) as Mr. Savic.

Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters will be a 26 episode season and premiere late 2017.  It is being developed by Executive Producer and Supervising Director Victor Cook (Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated) and Executive Producer/Story Editors/Head Writers Chris “Doc Wyatt (Ultimate Spider-Man, Napoleon Dynamite) and Kevin Burke (Ultimate Spider-Man, Avengers Assemble).

Well, I don’t know about you, but this series sounds like it could be a great addition for the Netflix Originals library.  Thanks for reading. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for all of your superhero needs!
