Some of the biggest talk is Star Wars land and has been for the last two years. It’s coming to both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios parks. Yesterday, at D23, they revealed the incredibly detailed model of the land. And today, we learned more details of what to expect when the lands open, including the land’s name. Even though it was accidentally leaked last night, Bob Chapek announced today the new land is officially called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
First, let’s check out the model. It’s huge. I only wish I could see it in person.
And if that wasn’t incredible enough, we have a virtual walk-through of the model. Check out the video below.
As for the details, well we already knew the lands will be fully immersive for guests unlike anything ever before. Guests will encounter many familiar faces inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including BB-8, Chewbacca, members of the First Order and – among many others – Captain Rex from Star Tours who takes on a new role in this land as the DJ at the cantina!
At the cantina, guests will be able to try unique concoctions, including blue milk! Nearby, they’ll also be able to acquire trinkets and treasures from across the galaxy.
Moving onto the attractions, Galaxy’s Edge will contain two major attractions which put guests in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Each attraction will offer guests the chance to immerse themselves in the Star Wars universe like never before.
The first will make you feel like you’re on a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay. It’s an attraction built on a scale Disney has never done before. Not many details have been given for this attraction, though the a model of the ride vehicle was believed to have been seen at D23. If true, it will be an 8 person car (4X2) and be trackless. And if rumors are true, guests may be required to leave the vehicle mid-ride for a walking portion, and climb back on another vehicle to finish out the ride.
The second attraction will give guests the opportunity to fly the Millennium Falcon, piloting the ship, shooting blasters or preparing for hyperspace – all while completing a critical mission. The catch is all about how you perform on the mission which holds even bigger stakes: perform with skill and you may earn extra galactic credits, but bring the ship back banged up and you could find yourself on the list of a bounty hunter. End up on Harkos’s list and you may face a problem if you show up at the local cantina!
Both Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands will open in 2019, first at the Disneyland Resort before the next D23 and the second at Disney’s Hollywood Studios later in the year.
