Rumored a few months ago thanks to a leaked survey for Disney park guests, and now confirmed by Bob Chapek at D23 yesterday, Disney is currently developing a fully immersive Star Wars resort!

The new resort will be an all-inclusive luxury “Starship” resort reportedly attached to Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so guests can enter and exit the land from the resort.  The location isn’t clear.  Some think it could be directly behind the land itself, putting it pretty much on property with the park. But a keen eye will notice that quite a bit of land is being cleared on the other side of World Drive.  It’s currently being used for construction trucks and most likely storage, plus a conveyor belt goes over the roadway for transporting dirt.  However, it wouldn’t be to far off to speculate this could also be the eventual home for the new resort, with a bridge or even an underground tunnel connecting the resort to the back of the new land for the guests’ entry.  Stranger things have been done.

During the announcement at D23, Bob Chapek said the new resort will be a revolutionary experience and a living adventure which will enable guests to immerse themselves in an completely new form of Disney storytelling.

“It’s unlike anything that exists today.” he said. “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.”

Not many details were given, but according to early reports and rumors, this new resort will be a two night immersive experience and be all inclusive.  The luxury “starship” will be treated just like a cruise ship as guests will be treated to luxury accommodations.  For starters, all meals during their stay are included.  This includes two buffet breakfasts, one lunch, and two signature evening dinners; five meals total.  The cost for this two night stay?  Early reports were saying $900-$1000 per guest.  It sounds a bit much, but when there is so much more that is supposedly going to be included with it than you’d get at a standard resort.

For instance, guests would experience a continuous story set within the Star Wars universe which would unfold over the course of their two night stay.   They will be able to have personal interactions with Star Wars characters and live performers throughout the starship.  There will also be ways to engage in the story such as flight training, ship exploration, lightsaber training, and even personalized secret missions.  These will even continue for theme throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

The “starship” will also offer feature entertainment and even dinner shows.  PLUS, guests will receive exclusive park admission to the Star Wars land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, ticket included. And lastly, the amenities on the starship could include a pool area, water garden, fitness center, and even an on-board cantina with robotic droid butlers!

Keep in mind, all of these details are what was included in the survey mentioned above.  But now that Disney has confirmed this resort is actually happening, it’s safe to say we could very much be getting a very similar experience! Nothing else has been officially confirmed…yet.

Star Wars Land is scheduled to open in late 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  No opening date has been announced for the Star Wars Resort.
